Werwulf: The Haunting Trailer for Robert Eggers’ Upcoming Creature Feature Sets the Tone for Goth Girl Winter

In the midst of bikini-and-two-braincell season, a haunting new trailer has dropped for Robert Eggers’ next creature feature, Werwulf—luring us horror ghouls out from the depths of the sea to howl at the moon (aka the pool, where we were sipping blackberry mojitos and counting down the days until spooky season).

Based on the official trailer from Focus Features, Werwulf will be a harrowing experience full of strikingly macabre visuals and masterful cinematography. Set in 13th-century England, the gruesome period piece will follow a man whose heinous curse wreaks havoc on his family and their village. As bodies contort and unsettling rituals unfold, I think it’s safe to say that viewers can expect to find themselves fully immersed in Lycan folklore.

Based on what we know from previous Eggers’ films, fans can likely expect the story to peel back the layers of a devilish truth lurking within all of us—one that you may feel inclined to resist.

Returning from Eggers’ 2024 Nosferatu, which also debuted in theaters on Christmas Day, Werwulf will star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, and Williem Dafoe—all of whom we trust to deliver a perfectly haunting performance for the gothic horror genre.

Werwulf will show in theaters on Christmas Day 2026, which means we’re about six months out until we can revel in another lurid goth girl winter. It’s something to look forward to… if the wait doesn’t drive you raving mad first.
